COEDEUWYDD Woman of the Trees

The show lasts for about 15 minutes and can be performed in many contexts, it fits into the school curriculum in a variety of ways, it was commissioned by the forestry commission to explain to children the value of trees as a carbon sink but it does so much more. COEDEUWYDD was first performed at The Royal Welsh Show, many times a day and followed by a shadow puppet workshop. This format can be negotiated. It works well in school with a talk about climate change or an ESDGC workshop see our page Link here

2.5 Metres Height

3 Metre Depthtrers3 Metre Width

We could also fit into a conference, seminar or festival slot. Please phone to discuss the context.

TECH INFO

The stage size needed is 3 metres by 3 metres by 2.5 Metres in Height. There should be a blackout ( the better the blackout the clearer the shadow puppets will be)

We will bring a means to play the sound track but tell us if the audience is bigger than 60 people as we may need to bring a PA system and radio mic. Parking is needed for a mid sprinter van. The audience often get a better view if the seats are laid out in a curve.

The Get in: We like to have at least one hour thirty minutes to set up the show and more if a PA system is needed. The get out is about one hour. We will bring theatre lights if needed. Please contact Bill 01239 615952 or email: bill@smallworld.org.uk for details and more info.

Tech spec

Technical Specification for Small World Theatre
For Theatre and equipped arts centre venues
Cot Myrddin/Merlin’s Coat

1. Staffing
Where the venue’s stage lighting is being used, the venue should provide a minimum of one LX technician for get-in, fit-up & get-out. The call for show staff is one duty technician (if necessary). This show will be operated by a Small World Theatre technician.
Get-in time and crew calls to be confirmed between Resident Technical Manager and Small World Theatre Production Manager prior to the company’s arrival. Where stage lighting is being used, and the Resident Manager is providing a pre-rig, Small World Theatre will usually need to get-in 1.5 hours prior to the first performance. If our lighting and sound is being used the get-in will take 2 hours. The get-out will take one hour.
Set Get-in: We require all access door widths to be no less than 98cm or 38.6 inches.

2. Performance Area
The playing area must be a level floor or stage no less than 6m wide by 5m deep. The minimum height required is 3.50m from the floor to the lowest part of the ceiling, i.e. underside of lighting bars or beams.

We are touring a floor cloth, which will need to be part gaffered down, but the set itself is free standing.

We may in some cases require the use of house tabs.

The seating arrangement should in the case of freestanding chairs be laid out in a curve.

The set is constructed from either class #1/inherently flame retardant materials (timber, steel, cotton canvas) or sprayed/soaked with an appropriate fireproofing liquid (Rosco).

3. Electrics
Where stage lighting is being used Small World Theatre will either require a full pre-rig to be completed prior to our arrival, or an extra one hour call with sufficient crew to rig prior to the agreed get-in time. Please see (1) above regarding staffing. 13 amp power is needed near stage if we are supplying PA and Lighting. We also use a 12-volt battery for the giant puppet.

We will supply a lighting plan. Please refer to this for positions and types of lantern, patching and colour (please supply colour if available at no cost from stock – please advise if not). That the venue Lighting Technician speaks with our Production Manager, before pre-rigging, to clarify any queries as to position and/or equipment substitution. 4. Sound
We will require use of the venue’s sound system for playback of pre & post-show music. This is recorded on CD. (We can bring our own PA by negotiation)

Our Technician will control all sound. We will bring a Digitech vocal 300 mic effects unit.

Cot Myrddin or Merlin’s Coat provides a rare opportunity to see a brand new performance by Small World Theatre that is innovative, culturally rich and funny. Local hero Merlin, played by a giant puppet, is assisted by chronosynchlastic (google it!) sub personalities Gwyllt ap Fachen and Emrys to bring forth his latest prophecy about the state of the world. What will that be? Following the stars they find a mysterious stone but where is Merlin?
Together the Welsh and English languages weave a tale with sparkling threads of poetry, history, mythology, wizardry and time travel. Plates spin, Taliesin is born, shadow puppets play, the worlds turns in a crazy universe where things are getting out of hand. Will the audience be able to help find a solution?
This performance brings together the talents of Delyth Wyn respected Welsh actress and puppeteer and Bill Hamblett writer, puppeteer and performer. Link below back to "Merlin" page
