BLACK HISTORY 365

On stage from 5.30pm

The WATER POETS

5-piece band celebrating the new album, MAKE IT RIGHT, a suite of songs across the genre mix of gospel, blues, jazz and folk. It responds directly to the racially motivated terrorist attack on 15 September 1963 with a Welsh perspective. Four young black girls were murdered in the bombing. Wales reacted as a nation and responded in a way that we must be proud of 60 years later.

Social history crumbles, fades into obscurity unless people of the next generation fight to keep it alive. The story of the Wales Window of Alabama needs to be kept in the consciousness of the Welsh public. The artistic response of artist John Petts 60 years ago to the atrocity directly links the Civil Rights Movement with Wales. This is the inspiration for our work.

On stage from 7pm

DIONNE BENNETT and the PEPPERSEEDS

Dionne Bennett and the Pepperseeds bring their unique blend of homegrown funk and soul-jazz to Cardigan. Expect an infectious blend of soulful Funk and Jazz with a Latin twist from a band of Wales' finest session musicians.

Dionne Bennett is quickly becoming renowned as Wales' foremost Soul/Jazz Vocalist. Her solo album Sugar Hip YaYa gained high acclaim in recent years, as well as her impressive reputation as a leading vocalist and lyricist working alongside legends such as Jason Robello and Slowly Rolling Camera to name a few.

The band includes Simon Kingman on guitar (Sian Evans/Kosheen, Zervas and Pepper), Bassist Achille Mondo (Sol Latino, Quattro) from Cameroon, top jazz pianist, Mark Sambel on Keys, and one of the grooviest drummers this side of the Atlantic, Gary James providing the beats.
