RECOMMENDATIONS

That Glyn Derw High School, Ely be encouraged to employ a drama teacher. The project’s success will lend weight to a desire expressed by staff within the school.

Any future similar project may find it useful to monitor any change in participants' progress in formal school work or behaviour.

Monitor audience response and whether there is any change in attitude from either generation when seeing this collaboration.

Monitor whether lasting relationships between the generations have been formed within the group. This report could be made widely available to schools and community groups, funders, charitable agencies, arts councils and other relevant bodies.

An Internet version of the report could be funded for Small World Theatre’s new Internet site.

Funding could be sought to produce and edit a video of the process and product. This would provide an educational resource for others wishing to replicate this type of work. Existing video material would need augmenting with sections of practical puppet making , script devising, image work etc.

It may be desirable to base a future project outside the formal school sector, perhaps in a youth centre or OAP’s day centre. One idea is large street scale puppets for performances during Ely festival 1998, with an intergenerational group of about 10 persons. A smaller group would make it easier to tour the production and street work reaches a large cross section of the population.

Monitoring and evaluation criteria and documentation should be financed and built into the project formally from the outset.
