The Fisherman and the Mermaid

Forties, Cromarty, Dogger, Fisher, German Bight!

It’s all aboard with Captain Fillet and his crew sailing the high seas in search of a massive catch.  Out at sea, the crew, finding their nets empty and the ocean a millpond, set to telling salty tales of mermaids, sea creatures, sirenia and sunken villages. They reminisce about a time when the seas were bountiful and coastal communities thrived by the sea.

Small World Theatre will be performing 'The Fisherman and the Mermaid' at a number of festivals this summer including:

Pembrokeshire Fish Week which will be packed with more than 250 events this year. Join the giant Fisherman and his crew in Milford Haven on 23 June and in Tenby on 24 June at the opening weekend. Visit pembrokeshirefishweek.co.uk for festival information.

The SO Festival which attracts thousands of people and transforms Lincolnshire’s coastal district into an international arts venue with spectacular visual art, street theatre, world-class performers and dance acts! Join Small World in Skegness 28, 29 and 30 June. Check the website sofestival.org for more details.

Dinefwr Literature Festival, Wales' major new literature festival this summer set in the beautiful surroundings of Dinefwr Park and Castle in Llandeilo. Look out for Small World Theatre’s 3.4m fisherman in the grounds on Sunday 1 July, 2pm. Visit dinefwrliteraturefestival.co.uk for full festival details.

The relationship between fisher folk and the sea and the very topical issue of diminishing fish stocks is addressed in this enchantingly funny show. You can expect magical puppetry, sea shanties, slippery fish and a flock of bicycle-powered seagulls! The Fisherman and the Mermaid is an outdoor perambulating street show featuring Small World Theatres 3.4 metre tall fisherman. It is a short performance of elastic length (audience dictates) that can be performed more than once a day at different areas around your festival site.

In conjunction with this performance it is possible to book a childrens workshop 'Sea Creature Features', making masks and sea themed costumes/ accessories before a performance.  Its a nice thing to do in addition to the performance and helps the audience get involved as the children have an opportunity to perform on stage during the 'underwater' section of the show.

The cost of this three handed performance depends on the number of shows, workshops and distance to venue. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
