As part of National Youth Theatre’s Connections Festival 2026, Ieuenctid Byd Bach presents Cloud Busting by Helen Blakeman, based on the novel by Malorie Blackman.

When Sam wakes up, he’s certain it will be just another ordinary day. But everything changes when Mrs Mackie asks Class 8M to write a poem about someone they care about. Sam chooses Davey…

Davey saw the world differently. Davey loved to dance, to dream, and to find shapes in the clouds. Although Sam treasured their friendship, he didn’t admit it. As the bullying grows, one moment changes everything. Will Sam find the courage to stand up for his friend? This is not the ordinary day he was expecting.

Cloud Busting is a powerful and moving story about friendship, loyalty and betrayal, celebrating individuality while confronting themes of regret, peer pressure and the consequences of silence.

Recommended for ages 13+. Contains themes of bullying, on-stage violence, references to anxiety and poverty, and one sexual reference.
