Music as a means of improving wellbeing in young people

Tonau is a music project run by Small World Theatre, using music as a means of improving wellbeing in young people aged 14+ from our rurally isolated and economically disadvantaged area.

Currently funded by Ty Cerdd and The Margaret Davies Charity.

We started with two strands to the project. Tonau Trydan (Apr -May 2025) provided DJ lessons for female, trans and non-binary young people who were under-represented in the industry.

Tonau Byw took place in Jan 2026. It created space for young people who were interested in live music to create original pieces alongside professional musicians. These sessions were funded by Anthem Music Fund Wales through its Atsain fund, backed by investment from Youth Music, thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Now in our third phase, we invite young people (14 - 18) to get in touch if they’re interested in joining the Rock School dates in Apr and May 2026!
