Trwco

An ongoing series of events with arts and environmental performances and discussions curated by Small World Theatre and chaired by Jane Davidson.

24 Jan 2025

Trwco ‘25 started with a screening of a powerful piece of zoom theatre; ‘Can I Live’ 2021 by Fehinti Balogun and produced by Complicité. ‘Can I Live’ told a story of climate crisis, privilege and protest through spoken word, hip-hop and hard hitting facts

“Countries most affected [by climate crisis] are the ones most historically stolen from.”

After a break and an introduction to the Llais yr Afon project (through an exhibition of local young people’s work and Idris Mathias’ illustrated map) the audience settled in to three pecha kuchas performed by local activist and environmental groups.

Our thanks to Phil Hughes from XR Aberteifi, Callum Firth from Save The Teifi and Joe Wilkins on behalf of West Wales Rivers Trust. Each presented their facts, goals and how to make a positive contribution. They kept to the format brilliantly and in the spirit of entertainment, they graciously accepted the gong.

Trwco was in safe hands with Small World’s patron, Jane Davidson, Chair of Wales Net Zero 2035, ex Welsh Government cabinet minister, author of #futuregen: lessons from a small country and land restorer. Jane chaired the second half. Her knowledge and enthusiasm from the stage brought forth excellent questions from the floor and her observations seamlessly connected the themes of the evening.

Much like the film, the evening ended on an upbeat note. Molara Awen led ‘One Voice Choir’ in a performance that included her satirical composition ‘Climate Change’. She taught the audience the a-cappella rhythms of the final song and before anyone questioned their ability, they were singing in unison.

The reinstatement of Trwco events is hoped to bring people together for a closer look at the complex issues that affect the planet. Issues that are not always felt equally by everyone.

“Thank you all so much for a wonderful event yesterday evening - so many good things about it.” - audience member and XR Aberteifi.
